If Malcolm X was to be alive today, he would be 88 years old. He personified leadership and activism. What a hero. What a legacy he left behind.
omg you always go to those places LOL
You know how it is Wendy, gotta meet my basketball heroes
Wearing a Lakers jersey, I see. Nice touch.
I wore a Lakers jersey and my friend wore a MJ jersey! Aren’t we clever harhar
So yesterday I met the greatest coach in the history of basketball, Phil Jackson. Saw Bradley Beal (through the window) and Andre Drummond too, though I didn’t get to meet them. Oh yea, and Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard. Fun day!
- Autobiography of Malcolm X by Malcolm X and Alex Haley
- “The Conversion of Chris Jackson” by Robert Sanchez
- Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success by Phil Jackson and Hugh Delehanty
- 1984 by George Orwell
Perhaps I shall read the other books written by Phil Jackson as well. His book The Last Season: A Team in Search of Its Soul was an amazing read for any basketball fan. As for the autobiography of Malcolm X, I have not yet met a person who the book hasn’t had a profound effect on. I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet. It’s about time. (The Qur’an as well as other texts such as Ar Raheeq ul Makhtum and others go without saying so I haven’t listed them)
I’ll find more books to read. This is just the top of my list. Unlike most, as a child I used to enjoy reading a variety of genres, including non-fiction. Are there any books you would recommend? Like I said, I’m open to any kind of book, so let me know your favorites!
Pulling the first all nighter for studying in my life this is ridiculous
Amazing vertical! Gets up sooooo high
A lot of students including me are really stressed out and filled with anxiety and worry this time of semester. Finals week is rough; mentally, physically, and emotionally draining.
Having reliance in Allah during these times is a great thing. Knowing that if I do well, masha’Allah, that’s great and I will be pleased. But if I don’t do as I wish, then while I won’t be happy with myself, it will be a lot easier for me to move forward because I know that Allah alone is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer or affairs. So certainly, regardless of what is happening now, everything will turn out for the best if I keep striving in this life and the next, insha’Allah.
Make du’a for me and your fellow students that we all do well.
“Hasbunallahu wa ni`mal Wakil’: حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Allah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us).”
آل عمران : Surah Al ‘Imran (3:173)
So these past few weeks I’ve been bumming around because of my ankle. Not moving most of the day, loading up on junk food. Naturally I was alarmed to see I had developed a small layer of body fat. Just to make it clear, no I’m not saying I turned fat, I was still very much skinny, just with a layer of fat. As in my muscle definition disappeared, especially in the abdominal region.
See, I never had any fat on me my entire life…I have an extremely high metabolism. It’s scary sometimes actually, I rub off 6,000 calories on a lazy summer day and I never turned fat. So naturally, I was alarmed when this happened, and I quickly went over to the gym and did a ton of running and sprints and full court basketball. For hours. For two days.
And guess what? Visible difference in just two days! How scary is that? Thank God for a high metabolism. It’s pretty incredible that I don’t have to do much and I could stay in relatively decent shape.
I was listening to the stories of the prophets series by Mufti Isma’il Menk on YouTube- you should all watch it. It’s beautiful how that every Prophet from Adam to Noah (Nuh) to Moses (Musa) to Abraham (Ibrahim) to Jesus (Isa) to Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon them all, could be classified as a Muslim.
Take Abraham(pbuh) for example. He certainly wasn’t a Christian as he came before Christ. He wasn’t Jewish because he came before Jacob (Ya’qub) from whom the origin of Jewish faith is credited to. But Abraham was a submitter to God and His will, and that’s exactly what Muslim means. That is the case with every prophet and his followers of the time- they are essentially Muslims.
Islam means the submission to the will of God alone. Muslim means one who has submitted to God. Islam, according to islamic belief, did not originate with Muhammad(pbuh) but has always existed, because if one has submitted completely to the will of God, he or she is a Muslim. I think that’s beautiful.
